• What is a public insurance adjuster?

As Public Insurance Adjusters, we are licensed by the State of Texas to represent you, the policyholder. Only a licensed Public Adjuster can represent you and advocate on you behalf without any conflict of interest or breaking the law. Contractors cannot represent a policyholder in a property loss claim. Public Adjusters are able to fight for you as they are agents employed by you, not the insurance company. The insurance company employs their own adjusters and trains them to pay the least amount on a claim as they can get away with.

  • What can a public adjuster do for me?

SK Lewis Consulting works on behalf of policyholders to help people receive all that they’re owed from their insurance claims. They help evaluate damage and rebuilding costs, track the flow of insurance payments, amounts due, and work with the insurance companies to expedite their clients' insurance claims and enure that depreciation is collected once the scope of work has been completed.

  • My Insurance claim was denied. What can I do?

Wondering what to do when your insurance carrier denies your claim? Having your insurance claim denied is not the end of the road. We know what to do if  your denial was less than one year ago, SK Lewis Consulting Public  Adjusting Firm can evaluate your loss for free and determine if the denial you received was fair. In many cases, we have found that a denial issued by the insurance company was in error. We have gone on to help the insured secure the benefits they were entitled to under their policy. We may be able to do the same for you.

  • Do I need to hire a public adjuster? Won't my insurance adjuster do all that I need?

Experience tells us that is unlikely that the insurance adjuster will adequately take care of you.

Insurance Company Adjusters work for, report to, and are paid by the insurance company.

Insurance companies are businesses, and they look after their bottom line – profits. We find that often times they opt to repair items when replacement is needed. An average policyholder working alone with an Insurance Adjuster is like an average person trying a court case without a lawyer. policyholders need equal representation. Insurance policies are complex legal documents and you will probably have many questions to how the policy provisions can or will affect your recovery. As your Public Adjusters, with knowledge of insurance policies and coverage, we believe that we are most qualified to help you maximize your recovery.

  • Will I get a higher settlement using a public adjuster?

In Texas we see considerable increases in payout for our clients. Each case is different, but repeatedly, Public Adjusters get claims paid at a higher dollar amount.

The State of Florida did a study examining the impact of using Public Adjusters for property damage claims. According to the Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability (OPPAGA), policyholders who used a Public Adjuster received payouts 747% higher on average than those who weren’t represented. • How do Public Adjusters get paid?

Public Adjuster fees are regulated by the state of Texas and set at ten percentage of the settlement received from the insurance company. Public Adjusters work on a contingency basis, and we only get paid after you receive your settlement from the insurance company. SK Lewis Consulting  provides a risk-free contract for its clients. We only get paid if you get paid.

  • How do I know if my claim is worth making?

Unfortunately, a common mistake made by policyholders is trying to assess the damages themselves and failing to take into account the full scope of repairs. policyholders historically undervalue the severity of damages to their property. The only way to appropriately answer this question is to contact SK Lewis Consulting for a free claim and policy review, along with a free inspection, including an analysis of the damage to your property. We are honest and will tell you if it the claim is not worth filing.

  • Can I get help with a denied claim?

Absolutely,  as long as you did not sign a full and final release. You should be aware of the policy-based statute of limitations that may apply to your insurance claim. If you have a legitimate basis for additional claim damages documented through a Public Adjuster, insurance companies often will make a good-faith attempt to resolve any outstanding differences.

  • I settled my claim a number of months ago but now find there are other costs and issues that resulted from my damage. Can I still get a Public Adjuster involved?

The short answer is Yes. Even though many insurance policies require you to sign a proof of loss, and in some cases, a partial proof of loss in order to write you a check for your loss, the signed proof of loss doesn’t relieve the insurance company from liability to fully indemnify you for your loss. You should never sign a full and final release for an insurance claim unless you have consulted with an attorney first. There are policy-based statute of limitations that may apply to your insurance claim. However, there is often a legitimate basis for additional claim damages and if documented through a professional Public Adjuster’s or attorney’s work product, insurance companies should make a good faith attempt to try and resolve any outstanding differences.

  • Can I hire a Public Adjuster if I'm already in the middle of the claims process?

Yes. And we know how frustrating it can be going through the claims process alone. We can help. We fight for your best interests and will not quit until you get the settlement you are owed.

  • I've been with my local insurance agent for so many years. Why are they not paying my claim?

It is not your local agent who pays the claim. It is their headquarters. Unfortunaely, loyalty doesn't get claims paid, but we do!

We will ask about your policy and if  you have you filed the claim yet, of have you had a denial.

Note: There is a timelimit for filing a claim.

  • I don't even know the process of filing a claim.

Many policyholders are unfamiliar with the process of filing an insurance claim, and the task is even more daunting when you have suffered a catastrophic event, like a hurricane or flooding. S K Lewis Consulting, Public Adjusting Firm is highly qualified with specialized skills and knowledge to review your policy, know what you are entitled to, and the software to prepare an accurate estimate.

  • Mitigation! What is it? Can I do it myself?

Mitigation is the cleaning, drying and removal of damages such as sheetrock, flooring, etc.

Mitigation companies are trained and know what insurance allows and they are able to document the need.

I would not recommend doing your own mitigation.  You can pick up personal items that are in danger of getting wet or that are wet and you are trying to save them.

Why using a mitigation company matters:

Rapid professional mitigation reduces downstream repairs by stopping damage from spreading, which can save significant time and money compared with delayed or do‑it‑yourself responses, especially for issues that require specialized equipment and protocols such as sewage, gray water, or pervasive smoke residue. Trained technicians follow industry standards to manage health hazards, document conditions, and stabilize structures, which protects occupants and helps avoid complications like mold amplification or hidden moisture that can devalue a property if not properly addressed.

  • Will I be able to recover from this loss?

Recovering from a major loss such as a fire or hurricane can be overwhelming, but we will help you take it step by step through the process.

We can coach you on how to file insurance claims, arrange for mitigation, manage cleanup, choose contractors, arrange temporary living, and ensure you receive the compensation you’re owed.

Yes, you will get through this, typically, property owners are able to come out with something better than they had to begin with.

  • Our church suffered a loss. Can you help?

Yes, we can help churches recover from perils.

Churches can be complex so they need public adjusters like, SK Lewis Consulting to look at details such as steeple damage,  potential damage to all buildings on the campus, and review your policy to see if you have business interruption.

Your business is caring for people and our business is getting your claim written amd paid, so that you can restore your church.

  • Why is it important to take pictures?

After the clean up by mitigation, it is difficult to prove how much water  or fire damage you suffered.

The proof for your claim is supported by photos. Take photos before and during the process. How can I proove you had insulated walls on the interior of your home? Insulation is usually on the exterior walls. I can proove it because we have photos of the opened walls.

The same is true with all flooring, light fixtures, contents, etc.

We suggest: Step in the room and take photos from all 4 or more corners. Include closets.

Take close up photos and also back away to give perspective so we can tell the room in which the photo was taken.

If someone asked how many shelves were in the pantry, or was the cabinet over the toilet removed, we could look at the photos and know the answer.

    Take lot of photos!
